This is another poem my mother loved. She gave me a book by Elizabeth Barrett Browning when I began with poetry, and then I read from the book to her during her last illness. This image of the poem is courtesy of Dover Publications. It was a free sample from Great Love Poems. It is a wonderful Mystery how love grows beyond grief. I am slow to recover from major events, but healing arrives; and I like to think the roots are deep in God’s Word too. I still love, “In the beginning was the Word . . .” from John 1:1. Now when my emotions overwhelm me, it usually means I need to rest and spend time rereading the Psalms and favorite poems. Takes a certain kind of patience some days, to slow down, but then I am blessed.
