Weathered Wood

beginning a third decade
of night skies over the water
restlessness becomes rest

as I learn slowly to “be still” *
and give my concerns to God
always a work-in-progress

a deer grazes in the night
I used to turn on lights
to send them away

we share the same space
for a moment

sun rises to reveal
colors of flowers
on weathered wood
shadows of plants on walls

* Psalm 46 (KJV) Be still, and know that I am God . . .
